Privacy Policy

A short version: we collect the minimum we need. We don't sell anything to anyone.

We treat your data the way we would want ours treated. This page tells you exactly what we collect, why, where it lives, and how to remove it. If anything isn't clear, write to us at book@thequietcareer.com.

1. What we collect

When you buy the book

  • Name, email address, phone number, and billing address you entered at checkout
  • The fact that you completed the purchase, and the amount, currency, and date
  • A Stripe payment-intent and session ID — we do not see or store your card number
  • Your IP address at the moment of acceptance of these terms, for the legal record

When you subscribe to the newsletter

  • Your email address
  • The date you subscribed and an unsubscribe token unique to you
  • Your IP address at signup, for spam prevention

When you contact us

  • The email address and name you provided, and the contents of your message

When you read the site

  • A short-lived session cookie required to keep you signed in. No third-party tracking cookies. No analytics that build a profile of you.

2. Why we collect it

  • To process your order and grant you access to the book
  • To send you receipts, sign-in links, and newsletter updates you've opted into
  • To answer messages you send us
  • To pay the legally-required tax authorities on income we earn
  • To detect and stop spam, abuse, and fraud

We do not use your data for behavioural advertising. We do not sell your data.

3. Who has access

Your data lives on a server we control, in the European Union. The following processors see slices of your data because they make the operation possible:

  • Stripe — handles your payment. They receive your name, email, billing address, and the amount. stripe.com/privacy
  • Our email provider — sees the messages we send to you (receipts, OTP codes, newsletter). They cannot read your account on this site.
  • The author and, occasionally, contractors bound by confidentiality, who need access to operate the business (bookkeeping, technical maintenance).

No one else.

4. How long we keep it

  • Order data: retained for as long as required by Swiss tax and accounting law (currently 10 years), then deleted.
  • Newsletter: until you unsubscribe.
  • Contact messages: kept for 12 months after the last exchange, then deleted.
  • Logs: rotated after 30 days.

5. Your rights

Under Swiss data protection law (and the GDPR, if you're in the EU/UK/EEA), you have the right to:

  • Ask what data we hold about you
  • Ask us to correct it
  • Ask us to delete it (we may have to retain it for the legal periods above)
  • Object to processing
  • Withdraw consent (e.g. unsubscribe from the newsletter)
  • Lodge a complaint with the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner or the equivalent authority in your country

Email book@thequietcareer.com to exercise any of these. We answer within 30 days; usually within a week.

6. Cookies

We use one cookie — the session cookie that keeps you signed in. It is set only when you sign in or buy, expires when the session ends, and is not used for tracking. We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or similar profiling tools.

7. Children

The site is intended for adults thinking about their working life. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, write to us and we will delete it.

8. Security

The site is served over HTTPS exclusively. Passwords are stored hashed with bcrypt; we never store them in clear text. Secret keys (Stripe, SMTP) are stored encrypted at rest. We are not perfect — no one is — and will notify you within a reasonable time if we ever believe your data has been compromised.

9. Changes

We may update this page when our practices change. We will not retroactively reduce your rights without notifying affected users by email.

10. Contact
